文字絵作品 Characters series
象形文字から発展した現代文字が、ケータイ文化の絵文字に回帰していく現象に着目し、文字の形自体を絵と捉え直すことを試みたことで生まれた作品。文字と模様の二重構造の画面は、色インクとペンを使用し、細やかな線の重なりのみで描かれている。
Focusing on the phenomenon of modern letters developed from hieroglyphics reverting back to the pictograms of cell phone culture, these art works were born from an attempt to rethink the form of letters themselves as pictures. The double structure of letters and patterns is drawn with colored ink and pen, using only fine overlapping lines.

は、日本古来の「いろは歌」を題材として、平仮名47文字と唇模様で構成された2枚1組の作品である。アーティストの yushi sato
が象形文字から発展した現代文字が、ケータイ文化の絵文字に回帰していく現象に着目し、文字の形自体を絵と捉え直すことを試みたことで生まれた。文字と模様の二重構造の画面は、色インクとペンを使用し、細やかな線の重なりのみで描かれ、「いろは歌」の無常観が言葉として囁かれる様を、繊細かつデザイン的要素を用いて表現している。そして、日本古来の言霊と文字の形に宿る力を再認識して欲しいという願いが込められている。
“Power of words” is a set of two artworks consisting of 47 characters and
lip patterns based on the ancient Japanese “Iroha song.” Artist, yushi sato, focused on the development of hieroglyphs to modern words and the return of pictograms in the mobile phone culture to
create artworks that reinterpret the shape of letters. The double-structured screen with letters and patterns uses colored ink and pen and is only drawn with overlapping fine lines. The
impermanence of the “iroha song” is whispered as words and expressed with delicate design elements. It also contains the wish to reaffirm the power of
ancient Japanese kotodama and the shape of letters.
